Free Jev Internal Linking Tool for SEO
Paste your site and see every internal link on one visual map. Jev ranks which page should link to which, and you get the anchor text and HTML for each. No account needed.
How this internal linking tool works
From sitemap to a list of links to add, in under a minute.
Paste your site
A domain or a sitemap URL. The tool finds the sitemap, then picks up to 500 pages spread across your sections so the map covers the whole site rather than one folder. Add up to five sitemaps if your blog or shop has its own.
See the link map
Every page becomes a node, coloured by topic and sized by how many pages link to it. Solid lines are links that exist today, dashed lines are the ones to add.
Add the links
Each suggestion names the page to edit, the page to link to and the anchor text, with the HTML ready to copy. Export the lot as a CSV for your writers.
What the internal link audit shows you
Four views of the same data, built for fixing rather than for reporting.
A visual internal link map
An interactive graph of your pages. Click any page to light up what it links to, what links to it, and what it should link to next.
Internal linking suggestions
Up to three new links per page, ranked by Jev. Existing links are never suggested twice, and thin pages are never suggested as targets.
Orphan pages
Pages no other mapped page links to from its content. Navigation links do not count, because a link in your menu tells Google nothing about topic.
Topic clusters
Pages grouped into up to six topics by what they are about, not by URL folder, so you can see which topics are well linked and which sit on their own.
Why Jev picks the links
Most internal linking suggestions come from keyword matching: two pages share a phrase, so they get linked. That misses related pages that use different words, and links pages that share a word but not a topic. This tool asks Jev, TypeSafe's decision model, a better question for every page: which other page would a reader who just finished this one most want next?
For each page, topic similarity first narrows the site down to the 30 most related pages, then Jev gives every one of them a probability. Hundreds of pages are ranked in parallel batches for about a cent. The tool keeps the top matches that are not already linked. If Jev is unavailable, a topic similarity score stands in, and the results say which one ranked them.
Internal linking is one of ten workflows in our guide to using Jev for SEO and GEO, which also covers what Jev is and where it falls short.
The rules behind the internal link analysis
What counts as a link, and what never gets suggested.
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Contextual links only | Menu, header, footer and sidebar links appear on every page and would make every page look linked to every other |
| Up to 3 suggestions per page | A handful of relevant links beats a wall of them, for readers and for how link value is shared |
| Never re-suggest an existing link | The job is the gaps, not the links you already have |
| Skip thin and legal pages | Pages under 50 words, tag archives, privacy and terms pages are poor link targets |
| Home is never an orphan | Every site reaches its home page through navigation |
Common internal linking mistakes
The patterns that show up most often on the map.
- 1Counting navigation as internal linking. A page linked from the main menu is linked from every page on the site, which says nothing about what it is related to. The links that pass topical relevance are the ones inside your content. That is why this internal link audit ignores the chrome.
- 2Leaving new posts as orphans. A new article usually links out to older ones, but nothing links back to it. Until something does, it relies on the sitemap to be found. Adding two or three links from related older pages is the fastest indexing win most sites have.
- 3Using the same anchor for every link. Anchor text tells search engines what the target is about. Vary it with the target's topic, and avoid 'click here'. The anchors suggested here come from the target page's own headline for that reason.
- 4Linking by keyword match instead of by reader. Plugins that auto-link every mention of a keyword create links nobody clicks. The better test is whether a reader who finished this page would want that page next, which is exactly the question Jev is asked.
After the map
This tool finds the links a site is missing. To inspect every link already on one page, with status codes, nofollow and weak anchors, use the Internal Link Checker. If two of your pages compete for the same query, the Keyword Cannibalization Checker shows which one to link to as the main page. And to plan the topic clusters the map reveals, the Topic Cluster Generator drafts the pillar and supporting pages.
Internal linking tool FAQ
What is internal linking?
Linking from one page on your site to another page on the same site. Internal links help readers find related content, help search engines discover pages, and signal which pages matter and what they are about. The links inside your content carry that signal best.
What are the best internal linking tools for SEO?
For suggestions across a whole site, this free tool maps up to 500 pages and ranks what should link where. WordPress sites often use plugins such as Link Whisper or the AIOSEO Link Assistant, and Screaming Frog is the standard crawler for auditing every internal link on large sites. Use the free map to find the gaps, then a plugin or crawler to keep up at scale.
How does this internal linking tool use Jev?
For each page, Jev is asked which other page a reader who just finished it would most benefit from next. Topic similarity first shortlists the 30 most related pages, then Jev gives each of them a probability, and the tool takes the highest ranked pages that are not already linked. Jev never writes the anchor text; that comes from the target page's headline.
How do I find internal linking opportunities?
Paste your domain into the tool above. It reads your sitemap, fetches a sample of pages, maps every contextual link between them, and lists the pages that should link to each other but do not, with orphan pages ringed in red. To inspect the links already on one specific page, including status codes and nofollow, use our internal link checker instead.
How to do an internal link audit?
Start with the pages that matter most. List which pages link to each one from their content, find the orphans with no inbound links, then add links from related pages with descriptive anchor text. This tool does the first three steps for up to 500 pages in about a minute.
What are internal links?
Hyperlinks that point to another page on the same domain, as opposed to external links, which point to other websites. Menu links, breadcrumbs and links inside articles are all internal links.
What are the two main types of internal links?
Navigational links, which live in menus, headers, footers and breadcrumbs and appear on many pages, and contextual links, which sit inside the body of your content. Contextual links are the ones that tell search engines how topics relate, and they are the ones this tool maps.
What is an example of an internal link?
A sentence in a guide to email list building that links the words 'list hygiene' to your separate article on list hygiene. The link sits in context, its anchor describes the target, and a reader who wants more detail gets it in one click.
What is an orphan page?
A page that no other page on your site links to. Search engines can still find it through the sitemap, but it gets little internal authority and readers never stumble across it. Here, a page counts as an orphan when none of the mapped pages link to it from their content.
How many pages can it map?
Up to 500 per run, from up to five sitemaps. Jev is cheap enough that the limit is not cost: every page is fetched live, and 500 pages is what fits comfortably in one run while keeping the map readable. On bigger sites the sample is spread across your sections, so it still shows your linking patterns. RankSpot handles internal linking across a whole site continuously.
