AI Visibility Checker
See whether ChatGPT recommends your brand when buyers ask. Enter your site, pick five questions, and get your GEO score with the answers behind it.
How this AI visibility tool works
Three steps, about a minute, and no account:
Enter your website
We read the page and work out what you sell and who buys it. No signup, and nothing to configure.
Pick five buyer questions
We suggest twelve, grouped by the kind of question a buyer asks. Swap any of them for a question of your own.
Read what ChatGPT said
Each prompt runs against ChatGPT with web search on. You get your GEO score, the brands named instead of you, and the full answers.
What AI search visibility actually measures
People increasingly stop at the answer. They ask ChatGPT which tool to use, which provider to call, which product to buy, and they act on the handful of names that come back. There is often no list of blue links underneath to compete on, which means the only position that matters is whether you were one of the names.
That is what AI visibility means, and it is measured the only way it honestly can be: by asking the questions and reading the answers. An assistant cannot be asked how visible you are, because it will guess, and the guess is worthless. Running the prompt and counting what comes back is the measurement.
The one rule that makes a check meaningful is that the prompts must not name you. A question mentioning your brand will always return your brand. The prompts this tool generates are the questions a buyer asks before they know you exist, which is the only kind that can tell you anything.
What is in your AI visibility report
Six things, and the last two are where most people find the work:
Your GEO score
The share of the five answers that named your brand, out of 100. It is the same calculation the paid RankSpot dashboard runs, so the number carries over.
Position and sentiment
Being named eighth in a list of ten is not the same as being named first. Where an answer ranks its recommendations, we report where you landed and how warmly you were described.
Who gets recommended instead
Every company ChatGPT put forward across the five answers, ranked by how often it appeared, with your share of voice against them. This is usually the uncomfortable part.
The full answers, verbatim
Open any prompt and read exactly what ChatGPT replied. A yes or no tells you the score; the answer tells you why.
The sources behind the answers
Which domains ChatGPT drew on to build its replies, and whether any of them were yours. Those pages are where AI search visibility is actually won.
A shareable report
Every check gets a link you can send to a colleague or a client. It stays live for thirty days.
AI visibility checker or AI visibility tracker?
The two terms get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. A checker answers a question once. A tracker watches the number over time. Which one you need depends on whether you are still deciding if this matters, or already know that it does.
| AI visibility checker | AI visibility tracker | |
|---|---|---|
| What it answers | Am I visible right now, on these questions | Is my visibility rising or falling, and why |
| Prompts | Five, chosen for one run | A full roster, tracked continuously |
| Engines | ChatGPT | ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI |
| Frequency | One snapshot, once a week per site | Every day, with the trend over time |
| Competitors | Whoever happens to be named in these five answers | A tracked set, with share of voice over time |
| What you do next | Read the answers and spot the gap | Publish against the gap and watch the number move |
Start with the checker above. If it tells you something uncomfortable, that is the point at which an LLM visibility tracker earns its keep, because a single snapshot cannot tell you whether the work you do next is helping.
How to improve your AI visibility score
In rough order of how much they move the number:
- 1Get mentioned where the answers come from. Look at the sources list in your report. ChatGPT built its answer from those pages, and almost none of them will be yours. Being named on the third-party pages it already trusts moves visibility faster than anything you publish on your own site.
- 2Write the comparison pages you are missing. A large share of buyer prompts are comparisons and alternatives. If nothing on the open web compares you against the brands in your leaderboard, there is nothing for an assistant to draw on when someone asks.
- 3Answer the question directly, near the top. Generative engines lift passages that answer a question cleanly. A page that takes six paragraphs to reach the point gets skipped in favour of one that leads with the answer.
- 4Let the crawlers in. Check that your robots.txt does not block GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot. Blocking them is an easy accident, and it puts a hard ceiling on everything else you do.
- 5Give the model facts it can attribute. Original numbers, named sources and specific claims get quoted. Generic marketing copy gets summarised away, because there is nothing in it worth citing.
- 6Keep it current. Answers lean on recent pages. A comparison written three years ago competes against one written last month, and loses on freshness before quality is even considered.
Two of our other free tools help with the technical side of this. The llms.txt Generator writes the file that tells AI crawlers what your site is and which pages matter, and the Schema Markup Generator produces the structured data that makes your pages easier to parse. If your robots.txt is the problem, the robots.txt Checker will show you what you are blocking.
AI visibility checker questions
What is an AI visibility checker?
A tool that shows whether AI assistants name your brand when someone asks a question you would want to win. It runs real buyer questions through an assistant, reads the answers, and reports how often you appeared, where you ranked, and which competitors were recommended instead.
How do I check whether ChatGPT recommends my brand?
Ask it the questions your buyers ask, not questions about you. A prompt that names your company will always mention it, which measures nothing. This checker generates the buyer questions from your own site, runs five of them, and reports what came back.
What is a GEO score?
The share of the checked prompts whose answer named your brand, expressed out of 100. Five prompts with two mentions is a GEO score of 40. It is deliberately simple, because the useful detail lives in the position, the sentiment and the competitors, not in a weighted composite nobody can reason about.
What is generative AI engine optimization?
Generative engine optimization, usually shortened to GEO, is the practice of shaping your content and your presence across the web so that AI assistants can find, trust and cite you when they build an answer. It is the AI-search equivalent of SEO, aimed at being in the answer rather than in a list of links.
How does generative engine optimization work?
Assistants combine what they learned in training with pages they retrieve live. GEO works on both: being mentioned consistently across credible third-party sites shapes what the model has absorbed, and publishing clear, current, quotable pages makes you retrievable when it goes looking.
Is generative engine optimization a thing?
Yes, though the name is newer than the work. The measurable part is real: assistants name some brands and not others, that choice sends traffic and revenue, and it can be tracked and influenced. Treat the acronym with suspicion and the underlying shift seriously.
Is GEO replacing SEO?
No. It is a second surface to compete on, and the two overlap heavily, because the pages that rank well are largely the pages assistants retrieve. What changes is the target: SEO wins a link on a results page, GEO wins a mention inside an answer where there may be no list of links at all.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
No, but zero-click behaviour is growing, so the share of searches that end without a visit is rising. The practical response is to keep doing SEO and to start measuring whether assistants name you, which is what this tool is for.
Can ChatGPT do SEO?
It can help with the writing and the analysis, but it cannot make itself recommend you. That comes from what exists about you on the open web. Asking ChatGPT how visible you are is also unreliable: it will guess. Running real prompts and reading the answers, as this tool does, is the only honest measurement.
What are the benefits of generative engine optimization?
When an assistant names you, you arrive already recommended rather than as one of ten blue links, so the intent is far warmer. The other benefit is early position: most categories still have very few brands competing deliberately for these answers.
What tools are available for generative engine optimization?
Free checkers like this one give you a snapshot. Paid platforms, RankSpot included, track a full prompt roster across several engines over time and connect the numbers to the content that moves them. Start with a snapshot, and move to tracking once you know where you stand.
What are the best practices for generative engine optimization?
Map the questions your buyers actually ask, answer them directly and early on the page, earn mentions on the third-party sites assistants already cite, publish the comparison content that lets you be named alongside your competitors, keep it current, and make sure your robots.txt is not blocking the AI crawlers.
Is this AI visibility checker free?
Yes, and there is no signup. Each check runs five real ChatGPT queries, which cost us money, so it is limited to one check per day and one check per website per week. Run it again on the same site inside that week and you get your existing report back.
Why only five prompts?
Because each one is a real query against ChatGPT with web search on, not a cached lookup. Five is enough to tell whether you are visible at all and who is being named instead, which is the question a free check should answer. Continuous tracking across a full roster is what the paid product is for.
Which AI models does this check?
ChatGPT, with web search enabled, so the answers reflect what a person sees at chatgpt.com rather than what a model recalls from training. RankSpot itself also tracks Perplexity and Google AI, and the free checker is deliberately narrower.
Why did my score change between runs?
AI answers are not deterministic. The same prompt can name a slightly different set of brands an hour later, which is exactly why a single snapshot is weaker evidence than a trend. Treat a free check as a direction, and track over time if the number matters to you.
